In the biggest upset of the week, Team Dickson, winless to this point, wins over Wayne Middaugh in an extra end! Team Howard won over Team Lobel, and that makes draw #11 very interesting. 7 teams have a shot a the playoffs, but only if Team Dickson can keep their momentum rolling and beat Lobel tonight. After 7 draws, the question this year is the same as the question last year: Can anyone stop Howard? At least he isn't getting 9 points a game anymore, yesterday both Shane and Corner managed to hold him to 'only' 8 with 8-3 , and 8-2 wins. Day two is complete. Local favourite Shane stumbled against the two Brantford teams in a pair of games that were much closer than the scores appeared. Wayne Middaugh barely missed a thin triple to tie his game against Lobel in the 10th. What an exciting first day. The Man, Glenn Howard, won both his games, and Our Man, local Daryl Shane, also came out undefeated. Our gatekeepers counted over 400 people for the first draw...not bad for a Monday afternoon, and over 600 for the evening draw. Plus over 2,700 unique visitors to our website. Team Daryl Shane from the co-host K-W Granite club, has won the West Challenge Round and with it the last remaining spot in the provincial field. Team Shane lost the first game of the final match to Team Balsdon from Guelph, but scored a big 4 points in the 7th end of the second game to win their spot. The Record has a nice article here. We've got painted rings now! This picture was taken by Mike Turos in the wee hours of the morning. So we've got ice, rings, and rocks. All we need now is you! We wanted weather cold enough to make ice, and we got all that and more. -6C isn't too bad, but winds of 30-40 kph, and gusts up to 50 kph are making things rather cold for our volunteers. The Willis Way side of the sheet is a little lower than the parking lot side, so our ice team has tried trapping some water in plastic to build that side up a little bit. The wind is not our

Lunch time, and things are moving along well. Our snow walls are done. Our Level 4 Ice technician, Joe Hahn, has worked on several national events with Shorty Jenkins. Looks like the two of them share at least one ice making secret: If you've got Tim Hortons, you'll get good ice.

Just a little over 48 hours before our event, and our ice crew has started construction of the outdoor sheet. We're using snow banks to build the edges of our sheet to get that nice retro-look. To kick off the 2008 TSC Tankard Ontario Men's Provincial Championship, we're building an outdoor sheet of ice in Uptown Waterloo. We plan to have celebrity curling (including Eddie "The Wrench" Werenich!), media, food, and a chance for the public to throw their first curling stone. Should be a great time.
